Grapefruit Seed Extract for treating worms in dogs

Grapefruit Seed Extract (GSE) for the treatment of worms in dogs

There are many types of worms and intestinal parasites that can cause problems for dogs, including diarrhoea, weakness, and weight loss. They live in a dog’s gut, stealing food and important nutrients, and can cause damage.

We believe in natural worm treatments for dogs, and Grapefruit Seed Extract (GSE) is one of the frontline holistic treatments for worms.

What is Grapefruit Seed Extract?

Despite the name, grapefruit seed extract is not only from the seeds but also contains elements of the membrane and pulp of the grapefruit. It should not be mistaken for grape seed extract, which is made from grapes and is highly toxic to dogs.

How does Grapefruit Seed Extract work?

GSE is a citricidal liquid that provides a natural solution for treating worms in dogs. Made from the pulp, seeds, and white membranes of grapefruit, it is very acidic.

GSE has antiseptic properties that help destroy a wide range of organisms both on your dog and internally. It offers antibacterial, antiviral, antiparasitic, antifungal, and antioxidant properties. It is also rich in vitamins C and E and serves as a detoxifier and immune booster.

Grapefruit extract works by destroying the cell membranes of bacteria, fungi, parasites, and viruses, making them unable to replicate. It also creates an alkaline environment that is hostile to microorganisms.

What are the benefits of Grapefruit Seed Extract?

Grapefruit Seed Extract is a holistic alternative to harsh chemical wormers, which can strip the gut of good bacteria, cause digestive upset, and lead to resistance in intestinal parasites. This supplement targets only the bad bacteria and microorganisms, unlike antibiotics which kill all bacteria, good and bad.

Our GSE comes in liquid form, which is easy to administer and provides a simple alternative to worming tablets that some dogs may resist. Made from all-natural ingredients, it is a safe and effective choice.

How much Grapefruit Seed Extract should I use?

The recommended dosage for treating intestinal parasites in dogs is 1 drop per kilogram of body weight, for 10 days. For example, a 10kg dog will need 10 drops per day for 10 days.

How do I give my dog GSE?

Add the GSE directly to your dog's food, whether they are eating raw, dry, or wet food. The dosage can be split over two meals per day.

Does GSE treat all types of worms in dogs?

GSE will treat and clear all types of intestinal parasites in dogs, including hookworm, tapeworm, whipworm, roundworm, and giardia. There is limited evidence to support the treatment of lungworm with GSE, so we do not recommend it for this parasite. Consult your vet for appropriate treatment for lungworm.

Are there any side effects to using Grapefruit Seed Extract?

There are no reported ill effects of using GSE to treat intestinal worms and parasites in dogs.

How do I know if Grapefruit Seed Extract treatment has worked?

After completing the 10-day GSE treatment, it is recommended to retest your dog for worms to ensure they have been cleared. We offer a GSE liquid and retest kit bundle to help you save money and confirm the treatment's success.

Could GSE be used regularly as a preventative measure?

We do not recommend using any product regularly that disrupts the natural balance of your dog's gut. Although GSE is a natural remedy, it is best used for treatment rather than prevention. Worms can only be treated, not prevented.

We recommend GSE to all customers who have a positive wormcount for their dogs and the success rate is around 95%.

Regular worm counts are recommended—every 3-6 months—to monitor your dog’s health.
